MOVE & PACK TIPS

Make your move reservation with us as soon as you have a specific move date. The sooner you make it the better chance we can get you on our calendar. Try to schedule with us at least a month or more out from your move date.

Why hire a long-distance mover?

  • Don't use boxes without tops. We do not move open boxes.
  • Always tape boxes. Don't interlock the tops.
  • Use wardrobe boxes to make closets easier to pack.
  • Remember: the heavier the item, the smaller the box.
  • Use only small boxes for books. They get very heavy, very fast.
  • Always empty dressers.
  • We ask that freezers be emptied.
  • Never use newspaper to wrap fine china as the ink may stain, instead opt for packing paper or bubble wrap.
  • If you opt to pack yourself make sure all boxes will be strong enough to support your possessions.
  • Clearly label all boxes on the side according to room so we can place them where they need to go.
  • Try to pack all electronic equipment, like stereos in their original boxes. Otherwise use bubble wrap or Packing paper when packing these items.
  • Avoid mixing items from different rooms in the same box.
  • Clean out closets, the attic, and the basement as soon as you decide it's time to move. Moving is the best time to get rid of stuff that you don't need.
  • Pack a suitcase of essential items that you will need immediately after the move.
  • By law, a moving company can't transport hazardous materials such as gasoline, bottled gases and other flammables, guns, ammunition and explosives as stated in our Non-Movable List.
  • If there is snow or ice on moving day please consider your moving crew and make sure the driveway and access points are shoveled and de-iced as much as possible.
An unsuccessful packing job can lead to an unsuccessful move. Proper packing paper, padding and boxes are vital to protecting your belongings. We offer a full range of packing materials along with packing services.
